Transcending Ordinary Trascendiendo Ordinario

The big event this weekend was the Soapbox race sponsored by Red Bull in Dolores Park.  There were some 75k people there and 35 soapbox cars.  We got there after maybe the 3-4 car started and I stayed till the end.  There were tons of people there and maybe 4 big displays mirroring the event.  I was able to shoot decent video from a few of them, though the last one didn’t turn out well at all, but was my favorite skit/run put together by the Star War’s team.  Here are a few pictures of the event, along with a video I uploaded to YouTube . El gran evento este fin de semana fue la carrera de Soapbox, patrocinado por Red Bull en el Parque Dolores. Hubo algunos 75k personas y 35 SoapBox los coches. Tenemos allí después de 3-4 tal vez el coche en marcha y me quedé hasta el final. Había toneladas de la gente allí y tal vez 4 grandes pantallas de reflejo de la cita. pude decente para disparar un vídeo de algunas de ellas, aunque el último no fue así en absoluto, pero era mi favorito Dramatización / run elaborado por la Estrella de Guerra 'S equipo. Last sunday Ron and I walked over to Fleet Week , it’s an airshow at the waterfront that happens ever year.  It ran all week and we often saw and heard planes flying overhead while at work.  Once there, we meet up with another friend Damon, at the marina, who introduced us to some Japanese friends of his who were drinking/cooking on their boat.  Teriyaki beef with mexican beer:P El pasado domingo Ron y yo caminamos a lo largo de la Semana de la flota, es una Airshow en el muelle cada vez que ocurre año. Corrió toda la semana y con frecuencia vieron y escucharon aviones que enarbolen generales, mientras que en el trabajo. Una vez allí, nos encontramos con otro amigo Damon, en el puerto deportivo, que nos presentó a algunos amigos japoneses de la que fueron potable / cocinar en su barco. Teriyaki el sector de la carne con cerveza mexicana: P

After picking up Rons car, we went over to the Burning Man Decompression. I’ve always hear friends talk about this desert event and was interested in seeing what BM was all about, albient in the city and a much smaller version:)  Yeap, lots of interesting costumes and pryo :p Después de recoger Rons coche, fuimos a la grabación Hombre de descompresión. Siempre he amigos escuchar hablar acerca de este evento y el desierto estaba interesado en ver lo que BM se acerca a todos, albient en la ciudad y en una versión mucho más pequeña:) Yeap, un montón de interesantes trajes y pryo: p

Yesterday I took the CalTrain over to Stanford’s campus and visited the Cantor Museum .  The museum holds many of the works created by Auguste Rodin a french sculptor, donated by B. Ayer tomó la Caltrain a Stanford del campus y visitó el Museo de Cantor. El museo posee muchas de las obras creadas por Auguste Rodin, un escultor francés, donado por B. The Love Fest just when I thought I’d seen it all El amor Fest justo cuando pensé que había visto todo If I had been to woodstock, I’m sure it would have been similar to this, albeit a few more drugs :p My friend Joyce called me in the morning and we went around lunch time. Well I arrived on tuesday, to start my first day of work here at Bebo on wednesday Bueno me llegó el martes, para iniciar mi primer día de trabajo aquí, en Bebo el miércoles

After taking the Bart from the airport and walking a few blocks, I arrived at Bayside Village .  As far as corporate appartments go, I must admit I was pretty dissapointed with the inside of my apartment.  I guess I’ve gotten used to things like corian countertops, walk in closets, hardwood floors, etc. from my house in DC, or my last corporate apartment in KC.  All that aside, the location is really all that matters, and that is superb.  On the short walk to work I pass the Giants stadium, a borders, whole foods, great resturants, a museum, caltrain station, zipcar lot…  Here are a few quick pictures upon my arrival: Después de tomar el Bart desde el aeropuerto y caminar unas pocas cuadras, llegué a Bayside Village. Por lo que respecta a las empresas ir apartamentos, debo admitir que me fue bastante dissapointed con el interior de mi apartamento. Wow, as I consider ways websites try to build competitive advantages that are not easily replicated, one of the biggest leverages their size/money to create another advantage.  Here’s another brilliant move by Google, read the AP article here. I was listening to a podcast about Google in Asia and wasn’t sure how well they might compare with local search companies like Bidu going forward.  Well, rather then indexing the data of others for search, they are gaining an important data source themselves that will certainly provide another strong competitive advantage. The last one came last week in the form of a web browser, Chrome .  Many were quick to point out its inability to drive revenue and that it wasn’t necessary in a world of IE’s, Firefox’s, Safari’s, etc., however it further adds capabilities/opportunities to an emerging company who could use it to springboard into other business areas like office, desktop, even OS. Its seems each year I’ve got something going on around the house Su cada año parece que tengo algo en la casa After all my traveling, I’ve had some time to get to a few things. In the last two weeks I’ve changed a shower rod/curtain, installed a cabinet in a bathroom, and gave my deck some much needed attention by resurfacing it. I sat next to a virologist on my flight to Bejing and we began speaking of genetics, then viruses and it set me on an enlightening train of thought. Man, where do I start. Hombre, ¿dónde puedo empezar. Well I’ve come to the realization that many others have and that is that Ruby just doesn’t scale as easily as other available languages nor does it have the polished feel of something like Java or C. Sure, it is much faster to develop with, when you’re not debugging that is. If Java was more supported by shared hosts, I’d jump back on the Struts boat, though for my personal work, PHP should do fine. Ok, I know I’ve been back for a while, but I’ve been accumulating things to blog about so, before I talk about todays latest and greatest, let me talk about the LBF that I attended in the second half of my London trip. At first I thought it was a terrible location though changed my mind when I realized first that rather then other booths directly in front of us, we had a cafe/meeting place area, second, by the time people got to our area they actually listened to what we were saying rather then just grabing a few freebies and moving on to the next row of booths (since there really were no others:). We started the weekend on a open top bus tour where we listened to information via earphones and experienced the brisk London weather.
